In Publisher, a Web page is created by publishing a content item. When a content item is published, its property values are combined with a presentation template to create a file. This file is copied through file transfer protocol (FTP) or file transfer to a location specified in the Publishing Target page.
As a Producer (or a user of a higher role), you can publish one content item or one folder at a time, or you can select multiple content items or folders to publish simultaneously.
The Publishing Target dialog box has two tabs.
Configuring the Publishing Target
Important: You must clear the Inherit parent folder settings check box (at the bottom of the dialog box) to modify settings on the Preview and Publish pages. If you leave the check box selected, the folder inherits the preview and publish site settings from its parent folder.
Click Finish after you are done configuring the following:
Setting |
Description |
Transfer files for Publish using |
Choose the transfer method.
If you chose to transfer files through FTP, you must also choose the login type. |
Transfer Path |
Type the path to the location. |
Use anonymous FTP |
This option is available only if you are using FTP. Choose this setting if the target system has a guest account that requires no password. |
Log in |
This option is available only if you are using FTP. Choose this setting if the target system requires a password. Type a user name and password in the User Name and Password text boxes. |
Browser Path |
Type the site's full URL (address). |
Publish images to a separate location |
If you find performance is slower when published images are gatewayed, you can specify a different publishing target for images and publish them to a server outside the gateway space. If you select the Publish images to a separate location check box, you can configure the image's publishing target the same way you would configure the other content types. The following image publishing options display: Transfer using, Transfer Path, Browser Path, and Test Images Publish Target. |
Mirror Site Hierarchy |
If you want the folder structure of the publish and preview location to match that of the Publisher folder hierarchy, select the check box. Clear the check box if you want a flat structure at the publication site. |
Inherit parent folder settings |
If you leave the check box selected, the folder inherits the preview and publish site settings from its parent folder. If you clear the check box, you can set the preview and publish site. |
Note: To check whether the publishing target works or not, click the Test button. Test Publish Target and Test Images Publish Target appear on the Publish page, and Test Preview Target appears on the Preview page.
