Set up a selection list when you want Contributors to choose from a set of predefined text entries. Instead of typing entries of their own, Contributors choose from a list. Depending on how the selection list property was defined in the data entry template, users may select a single item from a drop-down list or select multiple items in a list. A selection list ensures uniformity and reduces the chance of misspellings.
This topic discusses:
Unlike other property types, a selection list requires advance work because you must create a selection list definition before you can apply a selection list in a data entry template.
After you create a selection list, you can apply it to properties when you create data entry templates.
To define a selection list:
To
move a value to the top of this list, click to the right
of the value name.
To
move a value up one space in this list, click to the right
of the value name.
To
move a value down one space in this list, click to the
right of the value name.
To
move a value to the bottom of this list, click to the right
of the value name.
Note: Reordering values of a selection list does not affect existing content items.
You can still edit the selection list after users have created a content item based on a data entry template with a selection list property.
When you add entries to a selection list, existing content items will not change, but your new entries become available for selection in the Content Item Editor.
When you rename the entries of a selection list, the entries are immediately reflected in the values of existing content items. The published content will not reflect the name change until it is republished.
